In "The Illusion of Freedom," I set out to explore the complex interplay between control and freedom that we all face in our lives. Drawing upon my experience working with clay, I challenged myself to create five pieces that would capture the essence of this unique feeling. The goblet, which takes inspiration from the god Poseidon, holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I would spend hours playing by the ocean, mesmerized by the endless expanse of water before me. This piece is a tribute to that childhood wonder and a reminder of the infinite possibilities that lie within us all. My plate, an homage to Zeus, is a celebration of my own wanderlust. As someone who has always loved to travel, I have always been drawn to the idea of the winds carrying me away to new and exciting destinations. This piece serves as a reminder to always keep exploring and never lose sight of the joy of discovery. The vase with its black inky sun is a haunting reminder of the dangers of overconfidence meant to symbolize the story of Icarus. I have always prided themselves on their independence and self-reliance, I know firsthand the risks of thinking we are invincible. This piece serves as a cautionary tale and a reminder to always approach life with humility and respect for its power. The vase with painted chains pays homage to the power of resistance and the risks of challenging authority. Inspired by the myth of Prometheus, who was punished for stealing fire from the gods by being chained to a rock, it embodies the spirit of human resilience. This piece reminds us that we can break free from overwhelming obstacles and reclaim our power, whether through art, music, or sheer willpower. The urn represents the fragility of life and the twisted world of death, inspired by the Greek god Hades and his underworld. Its dark hues and ochre brush strokes evoke the mysterious and alluring nature of the afterlife, while the vessel itself serves as a symbol of the cyclical nature of existence. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to contemplate what it means to be truly free in a world full of constraints. By reflecting on the timeless stories of the ancient Greeks, we can learn to resist the forces that seek to bind us and embrace the boundless potential that lies within us all.
